Turkish driving licence photo rules in plain words
Driving licences in Turkey are issued by the General Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs (NVI) with the same biometric photo as the ID card. The printed size is 50x60 mm (1.97 x 2.36 in) at 300 DPI, and the background must be plain white, with no shadows.
- Copies: 1.
- Age of photo: taken within the last 6 months.
- Glasses: allowed if there is no glare.
- Head covering: religious only, with the face fully visible.
- Head size: NVI does not publish an official head-height range.
If you already have an ID card photo in the right format, the licence uses the same specification, but a fresh photo must still meet the 6-month rule.
How to take the photo at home with a phone
Stand in front of a plain white wall and face a window so that the light is even across your face. Hold the phone at eye level and look straight into the lens. The 50x60 mm frame is closer to square than a 35x45 mm photo, so leave room around your head and shoulders.
- Check lenses for reflections if you wear glasses.
- Keep a neutral expression and your mouth closed.
- Stand a little away from the wall to avoid shadows.
IDPhotoly processes the image in your browser without uploading it, crops it to 50x60 mm, replaces the background with white and checks the framing.
Common reasons for rejection
- Wrong format. A 35x45 mm photo made for another country does not fit the Turkish 50x60 mm requirement.
- Shadows on the white background. The background must be even and plain.
- Glare on glasses. Reflections hide the eyes.
- Old photo. It must be taken within 6 months.
- Face partly hidden. Only religious head coverings are accepted, and the face must stay fully visible.
Printing the photo
This is a printed-photo document. Download the file and print 1 copy at 300 DPI at 50x60 mm on photo paper. When you order from a print shop, state the exact size, because the default passport size there is often 35x45 mm.
Tips for a clean result
Choose a recent picture where you look the way you do now, and avoid filters or retouching. Keep the checked file as it is, because resizing it later can change the framing.
Payment is one-time, and you receive a full refund if an authority rejects the photo.
Final checks before you submit
Compare the finished photo with your ID card photo if you have one: the framing, white background and neutral expression should look the same. If you wear glasses every day, keep them on only when the lenses show no reflections; otherwise take the photo without them. A clear, evenly lit face is the best protection against a rejection at the counter.
