Vietnam e-Visa photo rules in plain words
The Vietnam National Electronic Visa system asks for a digital portrait only. The size is 4x6 cm (40x60 mm, 1.57 x 2.36 in), and IDPhotoly produces it at 472x709 pixels at 300 DPI. The file must be a JPG or JPEG under 2 MB (2048 KB), on a white background.
- Pose: front-facing portrait.
- Hat and head covering: not allowed.
- Glasses: not allowed.
- Clothing: formal attire.
- Head size: not specified officially.
The photo should be recent. The portal does not publish a head-size range, so use a straightforward framing with the head and shoulders centred.
How to take the photo at home with a phone
Hold the phone upright, because the format is portrait. Stand in front of a plain white wall, with soft window light on your face. Wear formal clothes, look straight into the lens and keep a neutral expression. Take off any hat and glasses before you shoot.
- Stand a little away from the wall to avoid a shadow behind your head.
- Keep your shoulders level and your head upright.
- Do not use filters or beauty modes.
IDPhotoly processes the image in your browser without uploading it, crops it to 4x6 cm, replaces the background with white and checks the framing.
Common reasons for rejection
- Hat or head covering. It is not allowed for this document.
- Glasses worn. Glasses are not allowed.
- File over 2 MB. The upload must stay under 2048 KB.
- Casual clothing or non-white background. The portal asks for formal attire and a white background.
- Face not front-facing. A tilted or side view does not meet the requirement.
Uploading the photo
This is a digital-only document. Download the 472x709 px JPG and upload it in the e-Visa application. No printing is needed. Do not re-save the file at a larger size, since the limit is 2 MB.
Tips for a clean result
Choose a recent picture, keep your expression neutral and make sure your whole face and both ears are visible where possible. Payment is one-time, and you receive a full refund if an authority rejects the photo.
Final checks before you submit
Keep the original picture and the checked file together. If the portal returns an error, return to the original and produce a new file instead of enlarging or recompressing the old one. Look at the final image on a screen the size of a phone and a monitor, and confirm that your face is sharp and evenly lit in both.
